Evidence-based Intergenerational Community Ageing Model

Evidence-based Intergenerational Community Ageing Model

Ms Judith Ish-Horowicz, MBE, Principal & Co-Founder, Apples & Honey Nightingale CIC, United Kingdom

Understand the impact of a powerful Intergenerational Community Ageing Model

  • Pioneering meaningful play/activity
  • Working in partnership with care providers to create all-age programmes
  • Strategy for creating extended family relationship
  • Innovative approach to supporting and retaining staff

Following the birth of her daughters, Judith gave up her position as Head of Music at a London comprehensive school to retrain as an Early Years educator and opened her own nursery, Apples and Honey in 1991. As part of her programme, she created a link with a care home, Nightingale House which inspired her to co-found the UK’s first co-located intergenerational nursery where children and residents interact daily in a carefully designed programme of meaningful, challenging and developmentally and cognitively accessible activities. Judith is the intergenerational lead of Apples and Honey Nightingale CIC, an Ashdown Fellow, a school governer, and in 2010, she was awarded an MBE for services to Early Years Education.

Ageing Asia

Ageing Asia is an Ageing Market Consultancy Social Enterprise with the mission to change the way we age in Asia Pacific. We facilitate collaborations and strategic partnerships between CEO-level business, government and community leaders to access Asia Pacific’s US$3.3 trillion silver industry through a combination of in-depth industry research and networking with key decision makers in the business of ageing.

We also provide consulting to organisations seeking global best practices in housing, health and care models that can be translated for the Asian market place. Each event organised by Ageing Asia allocates at least 10% of the revenue to sponsor participants in not-for-profit sectors with free tickets and discounted rates to the events. Our charity initiative is the Art for Seniors Project that we developed to promote intergenerational bonding and interaction, and to brighten nursing homes through art.
